Most of the children’s parents are small-scale farmers who are largely self-sufficient. Most of the parents are illiterate and do not speak the official language. Many of them do not have the money to pay school fees. They see school attendance as a chance for a better future for their children. The main purpose of kindergarten here is to relieve the older siblings, who usually have to look after the little ones.
The average family has four children. It is often not known exactly how old they are. Only the day of the week on which a child was born is always known.
German donors pay the school fees, two school uniforms per year and meals from the school kitchen for 93 of our 640 pupils.

When Midnight Sun International School opened, he was very happy and grateful that the school accepted me and my brother free of charge. “The girl still has five brothers. Her older brother no longer goes to school because their father died this year and he has taken over his role on the farm. Ayisheitu is a very intelligent girl. She needs supporters to pay her school fees for senior high school at the latest.”
