Ralf K.’s birthday party on February 21, 2015 in Berlin

Here are a few lines from his invitation:

“What should I give? I don’t want any gifts! Instead, I would like to express my full understanding of this plan to anyone who wanted to use the occasion to lighten their wallets and would recommend supporting the enclosed school project of a friend in Ghana.

Sabine will also be there and will be available to answer questions from anyone who wants to know anything. There will be a donation drum on the counter that evening… ”

It was a great party and the incredible sum of 2,250 euros was donated. In August 2015, donkeys still lived in the third construction phase of the school. It is impressive what has become of it with your help. Thank you very much to everyone who supported us so generously with Ralf’s birthday donation. Pictures say more than words – see for yourself. Among the guests was Uwe Klöck, the managing director of the CONTEAM Group. He asked me that evening whether we needed any well-functioning used computers. I told him that we don’t have electricity on the premises yet and we don’t have a room that can be locked. But of course, yes, we would like to have computers. During my last stay in August 2014, the headmaster’s greatest wish was to have a computer for the teachers. I will report separately here about the IT room, which is to be inaugurated next week.

Ralf’s donation enabled the third construction phase to be completed – except for the roof (donation from WSP engineers, Würzburg). This is also where the lockable computer room, a large classroom for the new junior high school, which also serves as a meeting room, and the school management’s apartment are located. Karin G., Ralf’s partner, has supported us several times for the school. Her donation enabled us to buy the iron gates – so the premises are now inaccessible to animals and other uninvited guests at night.

I have been back on site since November 14th and will report on how things are going at the Midnight Sun International School. We are planning sponsorships for children whose parents cannot pay the school fees and a program to finance teacher training for high school graduates so that they can then teach at the school here in rural Langbinsi for a few years. We are also planning to build another three classrooms. There is still a lot to do. We are happy about the help you have already given and are grateful for further support.
