An empty stomach does not like to study
school meals in Ghana
Since December 2017, Sabine has started to provide school meals in Langbisi, Ghana. 44 children are already benefiting from it. This year they had a well drilled that supplies the 528 children with drinking water and is available for the kitchen.
There is still a lot to do.
We are constantly adding on and renovating old parts of the building. This year, for example, we tiled the kindergarten to make it more hygienic. The sanitary facilities are one of our next projects. At the moment there are only two toilets for all the children and teachers.
space for learning
In the primary school, some children still sit
three at a bench that was built for two children. A new school bench costs 15 euros.
Midnight Sun School goes digital
Thanks to the donation of computers from the Mainz advertising agency Conteam Group, an IT room was set up, which is supplied with electricity by a donation from the company WSP Ingenieure from Würzburg. We are working on getting better and better at using these new media.
At the moment, most of the children at the school are taught by high school graduates.
Since the 2017/2018 school year, the support association has been enabling three young adults to complete basic training as primary school teachers and for junior high school. This training is run as distance learning by the University of Cape Coast, lasts three years and takes place on weekends. This means that the three future teachers can teach at the school during the week and study at weekends. After their training, they have committed to teaching at the school for a further four years. The training costs 500 euros per year. We are still looking for further supporters for this educational project because the better trained the school’s teachers are, the better the quality of the teaching. It also reduces teacher turnover.

Work on site yourself
We have had four volunteers in recent years who travelled to Ghana through the Midnight Sun School support association. Noah and Daniel only returned in November after an eight-week stay. They laid bricks, laid tiles, made bricks, built a basketball hoop, set up a waste incineration plant, taught sports lessons… Please ask me if you are interested in lending a hand on site.
